Measurement technology for production monitoring

LTT precision measuring devices are ideal for use in production thanks to reliable real-time monitoring for example for process monitoring in production or for non-destructive material testing

What is production monitoring?

Production monitoring is a central component of modern manufacturing processes. It includes all measures for the continuous monitoring of production processes to ensure quality, efficiency and adherence to deadlines. The aim is to detect deviations at an early stage so that corrective action can be taken in good time.

The role of measurement technology in production monitoring

Measurement technology plays a key role in production monitoring. By precisely recording process and product data, e.g. temperature, pressure, dimensional accuracy or surface quality, it enables an objective assessment of production quality in real time. Modern sensor technology, automated measuring systems and networked data analysis support early fault detection, traceability and process optimization.

However, measurement technology only unfolds its potential if it is used correctly. The selection of suitable measurement methods and devices is crucial, as is the integration of measurement technology into the ongoing production process. A frequent source of error is insufficiently calibrated or incorrectly positioned sensors, which can lead to incorrect data and ultimately to quality problems. The maximum precision of the measuring device can also be of great importance, as measuring devices sometimes differ greatly in terms of sampling rate and resolution and not every manufacturer can offer the necessary precision measuring technology. In addition, neglecting data evaluation, for example due to a lack of analysis tools or a lack of specialist personnel, can significantly limit the benefits of the measurement technology. Sophisticated measurement data acquisition and analysis software is therefore a decisive advantage.

Successful production monitoring using measurement technology therefore requires not only technical expertise, but also a well thought-out overall concept. If measurement data is interpreted sensibly and translated into decisions, it makes a decisive contribution to process reliability, resource efficiency and competitiveness.

Smart production monitoring with LTT measurement technology

The LTTsmart is an industrial data acquisition system (DAQ) that has been specially developed for demanding measurement tasks in production and test benches. As a compact modular system, it is ideally suited for use in industrial environments and is characterized by high measurement accuracy, flexibility, and robustness.

Thanks to its modular design with two channels per module, the LTTsmart can be flexibly adapted to different measurement requirements – from simple voltage signals to specialized sensor connections (e.g., ICP®, strain gauge, or pulse inputs). With sampling rates of up to 2 MHz (optionally 4 MHz) per channel and 24-bit resolution, it records electrical quantities with high precision and synchronously across many channels. In addition, the LTTsmart can also be configured and used as a power analyzer.

For production monitoring, the LTTsmart provides reliable real-time measurement data for analyzing processes and system states. With its high bandwidth, galvanically isolated inputs, and seamless data transfer to the PC, it ensures that physical quantities such as voltage, current, or speed can be accurately recorded and used for process control.

Through integration with powerful software (e.g., LTTpro and open interfaces to tools such as LabVIEW, Python, or Matlab), the LTTsmart supports both data evaluation and process analysis, making it a valuable component of modern production monitoring.
